Pompey Sound formed in Autumn 2021 as a mix of music and Pompey, and did what’s called a ‘soft-launch’ shortly after. We didn’t want to make a fuss.
Listener reaction was immediate; fans wanted more Pompey. We dropped the music and upgraded our output, adding DAB radio to our existing access points; Alexa and digital. You can listen to Pompey Sound on DAB radio at up to 15 miles radius of the island.
If you have an Alexa say “Alexa, enable Pompey Sound. From then on just say “Alexa play Pompey Sound”. The thinking behind Pompey Sound is simple; there’s not enough coverage of Pompey FC on existing radio. We believe it’s time for ’niche’ broadcasting.
Since we began Pompey Sound we’ve also learned that fears that there wouldn’t be enough Pompey to talk about are unfounded.
Ask any Pompey fan; there’s always something. Several things actually. Well, loads of things to be precise...

Our other key feature is that we don’t broadcast any clutter. By ‘clutter’ we mean annoying commercials, trailers and programme ‘positioners’. There’s no DJ banter either. Nor is there any national and international news, traffic, travel and weather. Unlike the rest of radio, we are aware fans can get that information on their mobile.
We’re not in it for profit, but need to meet modest overheads such as DAB licence fees, equipment upgrades.
